COMMUNITY FUTURES PROGRAM: THE SADC AND CAE NETWORK MAKES A REAL DIFFERENCE FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Québec City, December 16, 2021 - A study on the performance of the Community Futures Program (CFP), delivered by Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) and Centres d'aide aux entreprises (CAE), confirms that Quebec companies doing business with the network perform better.
The results of the Community Futures Program (CFP) performance study conducted by Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, in collaboration with Statistics Canada, were released last November. This study compares, over a five-year period, the performance of businesses with 100 employees or less that received CFP assistance, with other businesses with similar characteristics, but which did not receive CFP services. The results of the study show that the support provided by the Réseau des SADC et CAE has a significant impact on business performance, on several levels.
HIGHLIGHTS
The 4,451 CFP files reviewed established that between 2013 and 2018, our network has made a difference for businesses by contributing to the following:
- Improved survival rate of companies: the company survival rate is 77 % after five years of existence, compared with 53% for the control group.
- Job creation 10 times greater average increase of 3.2 % per year compared with 0.3 % in the control group.
- Nearly 5 times more jobs created by women-owned companies Average increase of 5.0% per year, compared with 1.3% in the control group.
- Faster sales growth : average annual sales increase of 5.2 % compared with 3.14 % for the control group.
- Faster payroll growth for companies : 7.2 % on average per year, versus 2.9 % in the control group.

The CFP is a federal government program that funds the operations of 269 CFDCs and BDCs across Canada, including 67 in Quebec. The CFP is a program that recognizes the expertise of local decision-makers and the autonomy of decision-making, in order to stimulate the participation of communities in taking charge of their own future.
